BIG money. Hallelujah for local charities getting soaking wet! The Rotary Foundation of Indianapolis, will award $255,400 to 43 local organizations and service committees during a time when the giving barometer has hit an all time low. More than 76% of organizations submitting letters of intent will be the beneficiaries of this financial windfall. Established in 1947, with a philosophy of “Service Above Self”, The Rotary Foundation of Indianapolis supports a wide variety of community organizations. The Foundation funds approximately $300,000 annually to important community projects and programs. Since 1993, the Foundation has made over 800 awards totaling over $3.7 million to local organizations and Rotary Club of Indianapolis committee sponsored projects. According to Rotary Club President, Julian Peebles, “Often times, people think you can’t make a difference by giving a little – be it two, three, five or ten thousand dollars. To our award recipients we help them impact the community one life at a time. Cumulatively, one by one we make a huge impact. Every person and every project is important to us.” Last fall the Foundation awarded $69,600 to the Rotary Club of Indianapolis’ Education, Environment and Beautification and World Community Service Committees for projects and programs in the Indianapolis and world community. This year’s award recipients include OK Program of Indiana; About Special Kids (ASK); Assistance League; Catholic Charities of Indianapolis; Center of Leadership Development; CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions; College Mentors for Kids; Concord Neighborhood Center; Creating Positive Relationships; Crossroads of America, BSA; Dance Kaleidoscope; Girl Scouts; Gleaners Food Bank, HVAF of Indiana; Horizon House; Indianapolis Arts Center; Indianapolis Civic Theater; Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation; Indianapolis Parks Foundation; Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; Indianapolis Zoo; International Violin Competition; Jameson Camp; Julian Center; Mental Health American of Greater Indianapolis; National Junior League of Indianapolis; National Multiple Sclerosis Society; 100 Black Men of Indianapolis; Peace Learning Center; Play Ball Indiana; Prevent Blindness Indiana; Ruth Lilly Education Center; St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf-Indianapolis; St. Mary’s Child Center; Safe Families for Children; School on Wheels; Scottish Rite of Indianapolis Foundation; Second Helpings; Simon Youth Foundation; Social Health Association of Indiana; Teachers’ Treasures; The Wellness Community-Central Indiana; and Young Audiences of Indiana.
