Which Wemmick Are You? |

Wemmicks were small, hand-carved, wooden people. No two Wemmicks were alike – different sizes, different shapes, and different colors. Every day, the Wemmicks gave each other stickers – sparkling gold stars or dreary gray dots. The pristine, beautiful, brightly-colored Wemmicks were covered with gold stars. Those with chipped paint, dents, rough or worn wood got gray dots. Talented Wemmicks that could sing, dance, or play music received gold stars, while their lackluster, boring counterparts received gray dots! |

One Wemmick, named Punchinello, was scuffed up, untalented and uncoordinated. He always received gray dots from the other Wemmicks. The more gray dots, the more ashamed and depressed he became. It got to the point where Punchinello hardly ever went out and if he did, he tried to hang out with other Wemmicks who had just as many if not more gray dots. The Wemmick community told Punchinello that he wasn’t a good wooden person and he believed them. |

One day, Punchinello met Lucia – a Wemmick like no other. She didn’t have any dots or stars! Everyone tried to load her up with stickers – over and over – but they never stuck – not the gray dots – nor the gold stars. Lucia was invincible against the sticker paparazzi. Punchinello, confused and perplexed, couldn’t figure out why and how Lucia remained stickerless. |

So by now you’re asking yourself, “What’s this got to do with being in sales?” The answer - EVERYTHING! After a hard day’s work, how often do we measure ourselves against the “magic stick” and award ourselves a gray dot or a gold star? How often do we let our prospects define us? Isn’t it amazing how a gold “good job” sticker pumps you up? You feel like you can conquer the world, make hundreds of cold calls, and seal the deal at every turn. BUT, get the “you stink” sticker and you simply want to crawl into your shell and call it quits for the day. Do you confuse your personal identity with the roles you play in life? One of my favorite reads, What to Say When You Talk to Yourself, by Shad Helmstetter addresses our own sticker issues. In it he discusses giving yourself the belief, the attitude, the emotion, and the action that will get you where you want to be by talking to yourself, using the right words! Helmstetter summarizes it best… |

You are everything that is, |

So, which Wemmick are you? Punchinello or Lucia? Remember…the stickers only stick if you let them. |
